The work of a Gardner never truly stops, especially during the spring season. I have been holding off on this post for a while now since I wanted to show some progress from our work in the winter season heading into spring. But it has been a long time coming, so in this post I wanted to showcase what transformations our garden has gone through in this spring season, and I will also come back later to show you more of the blooms.
First, starting in early March 2017 we started working on some of the landscape. We had been plagued with the grass growing between the stepping stone mosaic that leads to my little apartment. What initially started as a great idea, turned into chaos over time. The grass was pretty much dominated by weed and there was no controlling it any longer. It just looked ugly and also had some patches of dirt.
That's why we decided to remove the stepping stones, and dig the grass out and simply make a mosaic with the stones on a cemented surface. Those works took 3 days, and I think the guys who did it, did a great job. Now this part of the garden looks much neater, cleaner and simpler.
We then had to clean the stone and remove any dirt left by the workers (which of course was there in abundance, you know how it is with construction guys). We also cleaned our tool shed and porch in front of it.
The next big thing we did was planting grass, flowers and new fruit in our orchard. For that we had to get heavy machinery first. The ground had to be re-dug first. Then we planted new grass, and flowers on the sides of the walk path and outer lines of the orchard. They have yet to grow so I will get back to you and show how and if it will grow in the end. We planted strawberries in the orchard which will hopefully grow nice a big since I like them a lot.
After the dirty work was done we finished up with decorating the garden. A new set of outside chairs and a sofa was purchased, including two tables ans decoration. It is my favorite spot in the garden now, since you can actually lay down and enjoy the sun and gaze up towards the sky.
I bought some solar powered lights, which are in the form of butterflies. They are easy to install, just put the receptor in the ground and hang the lights as desired into the bushes. At night the turn on automatically and transform the scenery with nice colors.
All in all it didn't cost too much to rework some aspects of the garden, but more work is ahead of us. We have yet to buy some pots for new flowers and plant them. I will update you with more information as some time passes. In the meantime I will enjoy these sunny spring days in Mostar.
I hope you enjoyed the sights. Have you been doing garden work? Any tips, ideas? Let me please know in the comments below.
