One should be aware that there are two types of EMH in offer - Morning EMH
and the Evening EMH. The Morning EMH allows you to enter the participating Park
one hour before it opens for regular visitors, the Evening EMH allows you to
stay back late and enjoy amidst a much lesser crowd as others (those staying
outside the Resort) left the Park already. Either have a luxury, private mobile camp erected just for your family, or
stay at a beautiful tented camp or lodge. Perhaps even sleep out in a tree
house for a night. For the more active family, have a couple of nights on a
walking safari..
Lamu Cultural Festival and dhow boat race - November
This is a celebration of both the past and the future, and the beliefs and
traditions that are the heart and soul of the Lamu community. Several
competitions and races are staged during this week long festival. The town's
finest dhows are selected to compete, and race under sail through a complicated
series of buoys, combining speed with elaborate tacking and manoeuvring skill. We
have some beautiful places to stay in Lamu - from Robinson Crusoe retreats with
plenty of water sports, to magnificent, private villas which come complete with
your own staff, boat, and skipper, to gorgeous boutique hotels.
Canoes and traditional
sailing dhows compete on the still waters in the famous annual dhow race, and
school children present their poetry and plays to the crowds. Traditional
dancing takes place - all originally from Ibo Island. A sense of community
fills the streets and a sense of belonging surrounds all visitors and guests.
Ibo Island is a very special place. Watch the local inhabitants go about
their daily life, oblivious to the tourists visiting the only lodge. Perhaps
take a private dhow safari, visiting some of the islands, or complete your stay
at one of our favourites - beautiful, luxurious lodges in the Quirimbas
archipelago for those wanting the finest, powder white sand and totally
unspoilt beaches.
But whatever you do, don't miss this island and try to
coincide your holiday in Mozambique with the Ibo Festival, taking place from
24th to 26th June. In Kenya, there are some
gorgeous, very decadent lodges, such as Ol Donyo Lodge below, where your
private villa is in a low malarial region, or in Laikipia which is another low
malarial area. On offer is anything from canopy tours and zip wiring, bungee jumping, polo,
horse riding, elephant back rides, visiting an animal hospital and orphanage,
the beach, tubing, sailing, parasailing, Bird World - which is a huge aviary
containing a wonderful display of exotic and indigenous birds - and Monkeyland.
Learn all sort of bush survival skills, too! You can even sleep out in a tree house!
